The countdown to the launch of ABC News 24 begins
The ABC News 24 team is hard at work preparing for the launch of the service tomorrow night at 7.30pm AEST. Kerry O’Brien, host of The 7.30 Report, will be the first face seen on the channel as he introduces ABC News 24 Launch: ABC News Special – an hour-long news program covering the news of the day and assessing some of the major local, national and international challenges facing Australia today.
But even before the launch, ABC viewers will get a hint of what’s to come with a fresh new look for ABC1’s 7pm news bulletins across the country. Immediately before the launch, news bulletins in each state will unveil new graphics, weather reports, supers and opening titles that reflect the style and feel of ABC News 24.
The launch program itself will air live at 7.30pm AEST on ABC News 24, and be simulcast on ABC1 at 7.30pm nationally, replacing The 7.30 Report and Catalyst in the schedule.Hosted by ABC News 24 presenters Ali Moore and Scott Bevan, the ABC News 24 Launch will be a fast-moving and informative hour of the best ABC News reportage and analysis.
Ali Moore, regular host of ABC News 24’s Afternoon Live, said: “We’re gearing up for an enlightening and challenging first hour, the perfect introduction to the depth and breadth of coverage viewers can expect to continue to see on ABC News 24.”
Scott Bevan, regular presenter of ABC News 24’s The World, said: “We have terrific stories coming to us from across Australia, and from around the world. The launch of ABC News 24 is must-watch television for anyone interested in Australia – its politics, future and role in the world.”
Note: political campaigning is expected to be on hold for 24 hours on Thursday, as the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition attend the funeral of Brisbane soldier Nathan Bewes, who was recently killed serving in Afghanistan.
ABC News 24 will showcase its multi-media offering at launch, with a live stream available as the television channel switches on at abc.net.au/news24 and on iView at abc.net.au/iview.
The stream will also be available on the following mobile devices:
• ABC iPhone app (scheduled to launch at midnight on Thursday 22 July);
• ABC iPad app (scheduled to launch at midnight on Thursday 22 July);
• ABC iPhone ‘Elections on Mobile’ app (due to go live this week, providing reports, analysis and results on the Federal Election);
• ABC Android ‘Elections on Mobile’ app (due to go live this week, providing reports, analysis and results on the Federal Election).
